Description
A storm clears over Maligne Lake in Jasper National Park. Jasper is the largest national park in the Canadian Rockies, and is located in Alberta, approximately three hours west of Edmonton and six hours northwest of Calgary. Jasper is known for the glaciers of the Columbia Icefield, hot springs, its lakes, waterfalls, and mountains, and the the Athabasca River, which runs through much of the park. Near the center of the park is the town of Jasper, a popular ski and vacation destination.
This photo was taken from a viewpoint along the Bald Hills Loop trail, high above the Maligne Lake Lodge, after hiking up based on a hunch that the afternoon showers might clear in time for sunset. The showers did indeed clear, creating this rainbow and cloud formation above the lake and surrounding Maligne Range. The iconic spirit island is at the far end of the lake.
This photo is ideal for climbers, backpackers, alpine retreats, mountain businesses, or any fan of alpine scenes. This photo is available as a canvas print, framed print, acrylic print, wood print, metal print, art print, or greeting card. Licensing options are also available: see below.
