Light illuminates a pair of twisted birch trees in the forest of the Canadian Rockies between Banff and Jasper. Birches are common throughout Jasper National Park and the Canadian Rockies as a whole. Jasper is the largest national park in the Canadian Rockies, and is located in Alberta, approximately three hours west of Edmonton and six hours northwest of Calgary. Jasper is known for the glaciers of the Columbia Icefield, hot springs, its lakes, waterfalls, and mountains, and the the Athabasca River, which runs through much of the park. Near the center of the park is the town of Jasper, a popular ski and vacation destination.
These two trees caught my eye while driving through the park. The filtered light from an afternoon haze helped to create a simple, but pleasing composition. Although taken in Jasper National Park, birch trees like these are common throughout much of the world, so this photo would fit right in almost anywhere!
