Chicago—The Windy City. Incorporated in 1837, this city of 2.7 million is the third largest in the United States. Chicago is a finance, industry, transportation, and telecommunications hub; it is also famous for its unique architecture, art scene, and music scene. The city rises from the shores of Lake Michigan at the mouth of the Chicago River. Chicago is home to such landmarks as the Willis (formerly Sears) tower, the John Hancock Center, Millennium Park, Cloud Gate, Soldier Field, Adler Planetarium, Wrigley Field, Navy Pier, and Chicago Union Station.
Chicago's North Avenue Beach is a popular summer destination. Here, the sun has just set, and a beautiful crescent moon hovers above the beach and the silhouetted towers of the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago.
