Artist's Description

Situated in northwest Washington, D.C., Georgetown is a historic neighborhood and commercial district along the Potomac River. Construction of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal began in July 1828, to link Georgetown with Harpers Ferry, Virginia. Georgetown became an important industrial and shipping center, with imports and exports being trans loaded between the canal and ocean-going ships. Today, Georgetown is highly preserved, with historic narrow alleyways and industrial complexes converted into apartments and offices.
