Description
Evening along the Bow River in Banff National Park. Castle Mountain looms in the background. Banff is Canada's oldest national park and was established in 1885. Located in the Rocky Mountains, west of Calgary in the province of Alberta, Banff encompasses 2,564 square miles of mountainous terrain, with many glaciers and ice fields, dense coniferous forest, and alpine landscapes. The Icefields Parkway extends from Lake Louise, connecting to Jasper National Park in the north. Provincial forests and Yoho National Park are neighbors to the west, while Kootenay National Park is located to the south and Kananaskis Country to the southeast. The main commercial centre of the park is the town of Banff, in the Bow River valley, along the Canadian Pacific Railway.
This photo depicts a small pool of still water I found along the banks of the Bow River. The two rocks in the foreground provided a leading line through the image. There was a slight haze from wildfires in far northern Alberta on this day, which was responsible for the slight orange glow and tone of the image. It was fun to watch the light change for the last few hours before sunset, and try to capture the right moment with light remaining on the stand of trees on the opposite riverbank.
This photo is ideal for climbers, backpackers, alpine retreats, mountain businesses, or any fan of alpine scenes. This photo is available as a canvas print, framed print, acrylic print, wood print, metal print, art print, or greeting card. Licensing options are also available: see below.
